What Is Web Hosting
This is what keeps your website on the web, it is like land space in real life. To have a website live on the WWW you must have hosting.
How Much Does It Cost
It depends on the amount of bandwidth, webspace, databases etc your site will need. The normal rate for a small site is around $5 per month. Cheaper is not always better, a lot of the budget services provide poor customer service and your site will spend hours each week down because the server isn’t very good.
How To Pay For It
The majority of hosting providers let you pay monthly, although you can pay yearly for a small discount. Many providers accept paypal, country specific providers sometimes only accept local currency via credit card payments.
Alternatives
If you don’t want to pay for hosting you could use a free host service like Tripod. However compared to paid hosting you have a lot less capabilites and adverts will often show on your site. We don’t recommend free hosting unless it is for something like a joke site for your friends or a fansite.
